Too good to be true…or not?
According to the New York Times, Robert Mugabe is negotiating with Tsvangirai about handing over the power in Zimbabwe. NYT are likely to have reliable sources, but it´s still difficult to imagine that any such thing could happen. Uncle Bobs unconditional support from the army and police taken into consideration, it would be highly surprising.
Nevertheless, it´s obvious that the Regime has some serious difficulties with covering up for Mugabes lack of popular support. Simba Makoni may be one of the reasons why. His candidacy has split Zanu-PF into two parts, making it more difficult to perform vote rigging. The former finance minister still has supporters in the party, as well as in the intelligence community.
